About Peace Pilgrim: From 1953 to 1981, a silver-haired woman from NJ walked over 25,000 miles across North American on a personal pilgrimage for peace. Books, recordings and a documentary have been made about this amazing woman. Many people still gather in her honor to continue her message. For more information on Peace Pilgrim, please visit http://www.peacepilgrim.org/
When? Saturday, October 8th, 10:00 am – 12:45pm**
Where? The 1 mile walk begins at 945 Detroit (Gerry’s home)
Why? To honor the life of Peace Pilgrim and to help carry on her message of Peace.
What else? Please bring a pair of lightly used shoes to donate.
Congratulations,
Green Door Fitness!!
Kudos to local business neighbor, Green Door Fitness, for being selected as Denver’s Green Business of the Month!
Did you know Green Door Fitness became a Certified Green Business in 2015? They have continued to promote sustainability in the local business community by introducing other local businesses to the program. Thanks for all you do, Green Door Fitness!
Where are they? Corner of Colfax and Josephine
Their motto: “We workout hard at Green Door so you can play outdoors!”
Read more about their green efforts at: https://www.denvergov.org/content/denvergov/en/environmental-health/environmental-quality/certifiably-green-denver.html
Check them out!!
We have a new banner! Look for us at CPN events.
Thank you Melanie, Lisa, and Marilyn for all of your work designing our new banner! It looks great, and will help us explain who we are and what we do. Thanks too, to Mario for getting new business cards. And of course, many thanks to the CPN, Inc for the funds to produce these.
Congress Park Neighbors Green Team Meeting
Saturday, October 15, 9-11 am**
Capitol Heights Presbyterian Church
1100 Fillmore
Please plan to attend the upcoming CPN Green Team meeting on Saturday, October 15th. As we continue to organize and propose projects for our certification as a Sustainable Neighborhood, we have invited a special guest, Tom Fesing, President of East Montclair Neighborhood Association, to share some of their early experiences and successes in the Sustainable Neighborhood Network program. East Montclair joined the program on January 23, 2016 and already has earned 206 credits!! Tom will tell us how at the meeting.
We will also hear from Catherine McCord, who is doing landscape design and grant writing for the REACH Academy Garden Development project (collaboration between REACH Academy, University of Denver Landscape Architecture, and our Green Team). Catherine will give us a project update and discuss ways we may get involved, and earn credits.
Last, Liz Goehring will present a proposed collaborative project with Denver’s Certifiably Green Business program, and discuss how our Green Team can help our local businesses get certified (like Green Door Fitness!).
** Come early for coffee and bagels, and a chance to visit with your neighbors/friends (8:30 – 9:00 am)
Communications Posting – Help Us Look Good
The CPNGT is working on a communications strategy and could use your help. We’re excited about everything the Green Team is working on and want to share it with the Congress Park community. We are building a Communications Team who can help get the word out about upcoming events and meetings.
We are looking for people who would like to help with the following roles: collecting articles and stories for our newsletter and website; maintaining the Green Team page on the Congress Park Neighbors website; posting event and meeting announcements on social media; providing overall content management.
Our hope is that this should only take about a half hour to an hour a week. We appreciate any and all help you can provide, whether it’s for a day, a week, a month, or a year. If you’re interested in volunteering or just want to learn more, please contact Lisa Loranger.
Thank you, and we’ll miss you!!
The CPNGT wishes to send a big shout out to some special people who have been instrumental in getting our neighborhood green team up and running. Sadly, each of these folks is moving on, either to other neighborhoods (no!!) or on to other related projects (phew! at least we not completely losing them!). Before they go too far, we wanted to let them know how much we appreciate all they contributed and that we are happy to have had the good fortune to work together and get to know each other, at least a bit.
Kimberly Rickards – for helping organize the pollinator folks at Earth Day, serving on the Steering Committee, and for practically single-handedly mapping ALL of the pollinator gardens in the hood. Thanks, Kimberly!!
Nam Henderson – for organizing our efforts around asset mapping, getting our green team involved in Denver’s WalkScope project, and sharing his expertise on the Steering Committee (even though we’re not sure we actually physically saw him at a ST meeting?). Thanks, Nam!!
Patrick Treleani – for quietly but oh-so-effectively sharing his organizational skills with the Steering Committee and drafting an excellent Communications Strategy that one day may actually be approved! Thank you, Patrick!
Joan Gregerson – our fearless ‘community instigator’, who got this whole green team ball rolling back in January. Thanks so much, Joan, for having the vision and skills to organize our neighborhood around such important issues. And for making it fun in the process!
And last but not least, thank you, CPN, Inc. Board for supporting our efforts, both in concept and in dollars.
Merci beaucoup! Gracias!! Tak!
