Congress Park Pool Will Open This Summer
In February, Congress Park community members asked Councilmember Wayne New to help keep the pool open, said Tom Conis, president of the Congress Park Neighbors, the Registered Neighborhood Organization for the area.
“It’s a good example of grass roots — the community wanted it and presented it to Councilman New,” Conis said.
New wrote on the District 10 Facebook page that he contacted Parks and Recreation about the repairs. The department estimated it would cost $20,000 to fix leaks. New offered to use district funds to cover the cost, which was approved by the Mayor’s Office later in February.
The Congress Park pool has been an asset to the neighborhood for its 63+ years. I appreciate the city making its renovation a priority.
I hope that the design team will make ever effort to reduce maintenance costs including solar water heating, water conservation in showers & toilets, pool covers to reduce evaporation and heat loss, water recycling, and the latest technologies for water disinfection
Please consider consulting Councilwomen K.Black’s recently formed Park Foundation for a fund/endowment that would augment the cost of staffing and maintaining the pool.
