Denver Water’s Lead Reduction Program Update for 2022
Provided by Denver Water
As we near the end of the program’s second year, we want to let you know what customers can expect as part of year three. Our program dashboard shows highlights from progress to date, including replacing more than 8,600 customer-owned lead service lines since the launch of the program in 2020.
In 2022, customers enrolled in the program will continue to receive replacement filters and reminders about proper filter use. We’ll also be sending water quality tests to and conducting inspections at select homes to help refine our inventory of suspected lead service lines.
Beginning in November, water quality tests will also be going to some of the properties identified for service line replacement over the coming year. Starting in early December, we will begin sending consent form packets to customers for upcoming replacements.
As you know, we use a model that takes into account those who are most vulnerable and at-risk from lead exposure, underserved areas and planned construction activities to identify where we will be doing service line replacement work the following year.
In 2022, we’ll be replacing lead service lines in Barnum, Barnum West, City Park, Clayton, Congress Park, East Colfax, Elyria-Swansea, Globeville, Park Hill, Skyland and Villa Park, as well as areas with lead service lines that overlap with other Denver Water planned work (generally these are projects that involve main replacements to keep our water system in excellent working condition). An interactive map showing our planned construction activities (available at denverwater.org/Pipes) will soon be updated to reflect 2022. We also will be conducting new virtual community meetings for customers to engage with us.

DENVER WATER FIELD STAFF – WORKING HOURS
Work hours for crews on the Lead Reduction Program are typically 7 a.m.-5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Currently there isn’t any weekend work in Congress Park for the Lead Reduction Program.
For Denver Water crews working on water main replacement projects, many of which involve lead service line replacements, typical work hours are Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. for residential streets and 7 a.m.-7 p.m. for larger collector and arterial roads. Weekend work may be required in certain instances, and must be approved by the city inspectors, though this is not standard practice. Weekend hours, when part of the work permit, are generally 7 a.m. -5 p.m. though exact times vary based on the requirements from the city inspector.
Please note that weekend and night work can occur when Denver Water is fixing service line leaks or conducting other emergency repairs.
