THE CURTAIN RISES ON A NEW YOUTH ARTS ORGANIZATION IN DENVER
Mile High Youth Theatre officially launches in the Congress Park neighborhood
DENVER, CO – Mile High Youth Theatre, a new nonprofit organization dedicated to furthering
arts opportunities for young people in the Denver area, has launched programming and found its
home in the Congress Park neighborhood. Through a wide range of acting classes, full-scale
plays and musicals, and leadership opportunities, students ages 4-18 are invited to join in on the
fun beginning in August.
As a charitable organization with a mission to create theatre experiences that allow students to
thrive artistically, socially, and emotionally, Mile High Youth Theatre is more than just a
production company. “We firmly believe that theatre skills are life skills,” says executive
director Christina Roberts. “By continually practicing skills like collaboration, problem-solving,
critical thinking, and empathy in the rehearsal room, we hope to not only nurture exceptional
artists, but exceptional humans.”
In an effort to maximize student growth, classes have been divided into four age ranges: Tiny
Troupe (ages 4-6), Rising Stars (7-9), Showstoppers (10-13), and Encore (High School). Fall
productions include The Spongebob Musical featuring songs by musical icons such as Sara
Bareilles, David Bowie, and Panic! at the Disco and Where Words Once Were, a play first
produced by the Kennedy Center that explores language and the impact of its absence.
Auditions for The Spongebob Musical and Where Words Once Were will be held on August 8th
& 9th at MHYT’s new location, 940 Fillmore St. The company will also hold an Open House on
August 19th from 2-5 PM. Families are encouraged to stop by for light refreshments and to hear
more from MHYT’s staff and board members about the organization’s programs and future
goals.
