This annual meeting fulfills the city’s requirement that we have a members’ meeting once a year. Following the members’ meeting there will be a meeting of the general neighborhood.
We would also like to take this opportunity to inform membership that we will be using some of the monies that Councilmen New and Hinds have gifted us to pursue preservation. We will use some of the monies for outreach to inform neighbors of what a Conservation Overlay would mean for Congress Park and get your opinions. None of the monies used will come from dues.
Denver created Registered Neighborhood Organizations in 1979 to improve the flow of information between city agencies/departments and neighborhoods. Congress Park has been an RNO since that time and was registered with the Secretary of State in the early 90’s when that opportunity became available. An RNO is not an HOA. Your board strives to be an outlet for residents to voice their concerns and get your opinions as well as an opportunity for the city to present future plans. The city has a very high expectation of a volunteer organization to disseminate information and educate neighbors about policies, construction and other changes. To do a reasonable job we really need more neighbors to get involved in some way. Joining the RNO is a powerful way to build community and get to know your neighbors.
If you have been a member for a long time, please attend our meetings and meet new neighbors. New members please come to find out more about what is going on, particularly in the next year. BRT on Colfax is coming very soon and will bring with it all the issues that come with big construction projects.
If you have ideas that you would like to volunteer your time for, please let us know. If we don’t get volunteers none of this can happen. Below is a list of things that we could use a hand with:
- Board positions (please contact us if interested)
- Crime report and attend at least some CAB2 monthly meetings
- Report on zoning applications in Congress Park and surrounding area
- Maintenance of Kiosk boards on 12th Ave, Clean up and post information for Congress Park, put up yard signs informing neighbors of meetings and surveys
- Membership support –Someone who could find out what home sales have closed and deliver a newsletter and invitation to join, or drop off newsletters that need to be delivered
- Volunteer to deliver to one open route until it is filled
- Help Wendy Moraski with getting articles or any other newsletter task
- Help organize and support having live social events for the neighborhood
Looking forward to seeing you in December.
