The Sustainable Neighborhoods program helps residents strengthen their sustainability efforts by providing support and recognition from the City. Participating neighborhoods receive in-kind support in the form of outreach materials, printing, venue fees, food, and staff time to assist with outreach and project development.
Applications are solicited twice a year from registered neighborhood organizations; up to two are chosen each round. Applying neighborhoods are evaluated based on their ability to implement a variety of projects tied to the program’s five focus areas: Air, Land, Energy, Water and People.
Community Need Budget Process
On May 23 the first ever District 10 budget meeting was held with the City Budget Office and eight neighborhoods and six business community groups. Capital improvement project requests were submitted by each participant and were well described, represented legitimate 2017 and long term capital improvement needs, and included supplemental information and many photos to illustrate and explain needs and issues. All of the City and community group discussions were informative and collaborative with the Budget Office giving budget process explanations and community presenters describing their needs. 34 community requests for 2017 budget funding were presented, totaling between $9 – $14 million. Seven long range funding requests were discussed for consideration in the upcoming 10 year bond funding in 2018.
At the time Jane Jacobs was born in 1916, the Congress Park neighborhood was known as Capitol Heights. Already incorporated into Denver, our middle class suburb was firmly established yet still growing. Through photowalking, story sharing and a self-guided scavenger hunt, neighbors of all ages will develop a picture of how and why for the past 100 years Congress Park has been great place to live. Bring your passion for exploring and if you wish, a camera, sketchpad, neighborhood stories and trivia. On this walk expect to meet neighbors and learn about the heritage of our neighborhood in an informal setting.

5pm: wrap up at Heidi’s Brooklyn Deli
