The Home Energy Conservation initiative focuses on helping Congress Park Residents improve home energy efficiency and consider using alternative energy resources. Projects include developing an inventory of neighborhood residential energy usage and providing various workshops with follow-up support to help residents learn about and implement ways to conserve energy. The CPNGT is working on developing a dynamic inventory of Congress Park’s green assets. Green assets include community gardens, food-producing trees, xeric landscapes, pollinator gardens, alternative transportation options such as B-cycle and bus routes, local green businesses, recycling and composting drop-off locations, Little Free Libraries, home solar installations, energy efficient homes, and even the “green expertise” of some of our neighbors such as bicycle experts and solar experts. The Congress Park Green Team (CPGT) is making exciting progress as a new organization. In addition to the excellent planning and preparation work going into our upcoming Earth Day Festival on April 23rd, we have also officially convened a CPGT Steering Committee. The steering committee held it’s first meeting on March 10th with the following members in attendance: Becky Coughlin, Patrick Treleani, Liz Goehring, Maggie Price, Joan Gregerson, Kimberly Rickards and Emily Hunter. Notes from this first meeting are posted on the Congress Park Green Team webpage. This committee will be working on setting up the appropriate structure and by-laws necessary to help the Green Team achieve its purpose.
